A Brief Look at the University - The Medical College of Georgia

First and foremost, I must apologise for this post - there is not much information available about the Medical College of Georgia online. Apart from their main website, which was unaccessible to me on many occasions (which suggests that they may need improvements in that area), Medical College of Georgia materials available freely online are few. As such, I will quickly give a brief overview of the university and cover a few of the standard main points about it, and then go on to the next university evaluation, which is normally much better and more worthy of consideration. I apologise for this post, and all information is from either peer reviewed sources or from Wikipedia, compiled from the main site from the Medical College of Georgia. The Medical College of Georgia is also known as MCG and is a public medical university located in Georgia, in the USA. MCG is the state's only health sciences and health industry university, and therefore is the local monopoly there, offering both online courses as well as physical campus courses, of course. The main bulk of the Medical College of Georgia's offerings are physical campus degrees and there seems to be only a few online courses available, so that might be a major consideration for students who intend to only get their degrees online. This means that the Medical College of Georgia is a good university but not good for online degrees.

The university is one of the best in terms of America's best hospitals and one of the better hospital/ healthcare/ occupational and physical therapy and research places. There are definitely many accolades for the physical campus degrees offered at the Medical College of Georgia, and there are no known issues and no known controversies surrounding the Medical College of Georgia. In 2004 and 2005, the Medical College of Georgia won many other awards, such as resuming education awards for human resource management and National Research Corp's 2005 Consumer Choice Awards - in other words, this is a great university.

Which University Courses are offered at the Medical College of Georgia

Every aspect of healthcare and medicine and medical studies is covered here at the Medical College of Georgia - every aspect is covered here indeed, from dentistry to nursing to medicine. In other words, the Medical College of Georgia is basically a comprehensive and complete medical school for both applied medicine, research and all other allied medical fields and allied related fields as well.

One might also note that the Medical College of Georgia is very good for research and branching out into several fields.

Finance and other important matters at the Medical College of Georgia

As I apologised for earlier, this information is not freely found online (correct as at early 2009), as I have checked the sites and all other related sites and found most sites useless or ineffectual in giving this information. I would say that the standard loans and standard US grants and such and such still apply, but unlike other analyses I cannot say that with certainty. More research has to be done in this field, and perhaps when I have completed with the other universities, I will write on this topic again. Sorry!

Why you should study there and my other personal opinions and recommendations

Clearly the Medical College of Georgia is an excellent medical school. Clearly the students there at the physical campus are clever and motivated students. Clearly one who lives near there and wishes to gain a first class education and a top degree should study there. Their academic track record suggests that.

However, for an online degree, the Medical College of Georgia does very badly - insufficient information for the researcher is provided (me, namely), and most of the information is not freely available. In addition, as I understand it, not all the degrees are offered. Some are offered only for physical campuses, and some are limited to online degrees, and some have to be applied to online.

I will write a brief history of the school and its historical achievements and educational qualifications and accreditation. These are of course valuable information for potential students. Then I will write about the various degree programmes and the various subjects available. The subjects are usually very stable (as one doesn't really expect a medical college to suddenly start offering arts degrees and suddenly stopping their most famous medicine and pharmacy programmes). Then I will write about finances, which may be very important to some people who need a cost effective education, and not so important information for some other people who have more money. Finally come my personal opinions and personal recommendations, in my own way, and from what I have read and what I have gleaned in the process of my research. I have done a lot of research into several schools already and have painstakingly documented all my writing in various posts here on my site, on various universities. LeTourneau University is apparently famous for its granting of masters and is ranked one of the best universities in the USA, and ranked one of the best in terms of the masters granting organisations.

LeTourneau University is accredited and there are no known controversies surrounding this university, and in addition, LeTourneau University has an online portal offering online degrees: MBAs, masters and bachelors degrees. LeTourneau University Online is the name of the portal where LeTourneau University offers degrees online to adult learners and online degree seekers.

(However, even though there are no known major controversies, some Christians may know that Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, was expelled from LeTourneau University in 1972 (Wikipedia, Dec 2008). More research may be done into this area if one is Christian and is interested in LeTourneau University because of the Christian environment or the Christian aspect.)

Overall, LeTourneau University comes across as a great place to study and is well received. Let us examine the online degrees offered at LeTourneau University Online in addition to the physical degrees offered at the physical campuses.

First and foremost it should be noted that Kettering University, as of 2008, has no online degree programmes but it has a physical campus offering degrees as well as distance learning programmes for various learners.

Kettering University was formerly known as General Motors Institute and was named after one important person who worked at General Motors, Charles Kettering. Kettering University offers degrees in mainly engineering, math and science, although there is also a business school. In fact, Kettering University is reputedly one of the best universities in the USA for engineering and is widely acclaimed, and the US News and World Report confirmed this status by ranking Kettering University as one of the best schools in the USA for its undergraduate engineering programmes and engineering education.

Kettering University has a special programme known as the co-op. This co-op programme allows both work experience and learning in the school as well, and thus prepares students for the workplace effectively. A student can also therefore earn money and gain experience while working, while at the same time getting the benefits of a world class education at Kettering University - the co-op programme is very interesting and useful for students.

Kettering University is a small university with small classes and a small alumni base, but the quality is unmistakable. Kettering University is an excellent university. There are no known controversies, and the university's reputation is solid. In addition, you might be interested to know that Kettering University boasts of many important alumni, for instance Stan O Neal of Merrill Lynch and Matt Borland of NASCAR. Thus it can be seen that somehow the better quality of this university has led to excellent careers and successful students who have made it in the workplace and made in the world.

As mentioned, Kettering University has no known online courses although it has a comprehensive website full of information and materials. Kettering University has long distance courses and these will be explored here on this evaluation and exploration site.

Which university courses are offered at Kettering University

The main course offerings are in the fields of engineering, math and science.

First let us examine their offerings in terms of distance courses and distance learning. This information was taken and compiled from several informational sites:

Basically I conclude that the physical university offers many more courses than those offered to distance learning, and in fact it makes more sense to visit Kettering University to study there, especially for engineers and potential masters students.

Finance and other important matters at Kettering University

With respect to loans and finance matters, these are easily available at Kettering University and the standard scholarships and various US loans programmes are all available here. More research can be done into this simply by visiting Kettering University's website or by calling up their financial aid advisors.

More important is the fact that students can make money as they learn, to the tune of up to $65 000, according to Kettering University's website. The co-op system allows both work and study and therefore makes a lot of financial sense both for the school and for the student as well, and this is a win-win situation for both parties. More research should be done into this as well if you are interested in working and earning money while studying for an engineering degree at Kettering University.

Why you should study at Kettering University and my own personal recommendations and personal opinions

"Known for top ranked undergraduate programs in engineering, math, science and business, Kettering University is home to:

the most advanced co-op education program in the nation;

state-of-the-art programs that are consistently recognized as some of the best engineering programs in the United States;

thirteen science, business and engineering majors; and

excellent graduate programs."

This is the university's take on the matter - why you should study with them. I cannot say that I disagree, because these are all true. I agree with what Kettering University says!

The reason is that apparently in 2006, according to Wikipedia, Keiser College changed its name to University.

Keiser University Campus Online is a subbranch of the main university, which is Keiser University. Keiser University is a regionally accredited, four year career college based in the USA. It offers associate, bachelors and masters degrees. The main campus is located in Fort Lauderdale with other campuses located throughout the state of Florida and also located internationally. The main subjects offered by Keiser University and their online division are business, criminal justice, healthcare, technology and hospitality. Apart from specialised education, Keiser University also offers a general education foundation in addition to their specific career focus.

There are no known controveries at Keiser University and it seems to be very well established and stable. It is, according to their website, "accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097: Telephone) to award the associate, bachelor and master degrees".

Generally speaking, there are many courses offered here at Keiser University Campus Online: Healthcare, business, biotechnology, computers and technology, culinary arts, education and legal studies, which means that they have expended their range of subjects and offerings, but the main focus subjects remain the same. There are many options for financial aid and assistance here at Keiser University. Here are some important excerpts from the website:

My personal recommendation is that Keiser University seems to be very well established both online and also on the ground in terms of physical campuses, so it would be worth considering seriously. Keiser University has many financial aid programmes to assist students, and is accredited, and there are no known controversies, so overall Keiser University would be a reputable college and online degree issuer that one could possibly trust. Keiser University is one of the universities that I would recommend, if you are interested in the fields that they offer.

These two main schools are - the school of education and the school of business, and these are the two main offerings for this online university. Degrees of all sorts, from associate to bachelors to masters are offered here at Jones International University.

I agree with everything that they state here at the website, although I think more research should be done. Nonetheless, clearly Jones International University is very established. Jones International University has no known controversies and is very good in the two fields that it offers, and there is also the fact that it is properly accredited. Overall, Jones International University is a great place to study and get your online degree with, so I would recommend online degrees for education and business fields.

A brief look at the university - Florida Metropolitan University (Everest University)

Note: Florida Metropolitan University is now known as Everest University; there was a name change in 2007, and so we will be referring to it by the new name in the evaluation - the old name has been left here so that people can easily find the university if they are looking for it (alumni, former students, researchers etc)

Everest University is a system of for profit private universities located mainly in Florida in the USA. Everest University also has many campuses located in Canada and in other places in the USA, and is one of the USA's largest educational institutions that makes a lot of money. Everest University offers many degrees, masters and career specific programmes, and also offers distance and on campus part time learning as well, making it a school that offers many offers and opportunities for many students of varied background and varied interests. Everest University is owned by Corinthian Colleges international, according to Wikipedia.

Everest University is accredited, but there is massive debate over its accreditation because it holds national accreditation, unlike regional accreditation. There is no worry about Everest University not being recognised, because it is indeed recognised, but the problem is that other educational and study insititutions that have regional accreditation may not necessarily recognise its national status and there may be some problems with credit transfer. Be warned and you should be alerted to this if you are interested in reading for a degree or certification from Everest University.

There were, in 2004, controversies surrounding Everest University but there has been no conclusive evidence of any wrongdoing (wikipedia, Everest website). It is very complex and students should be warned before they look into it. Everest University is nonetheless recognised and accredited, although there is massive debate and controversies surrounding it.

Which university degree courses are offered here at Florida Metropolitan University (Everest University)

Everest University offers associate degrees, bachelors degrees and also the usual MBA. Everest University offers really career oriented degrees and programmes and these are:

criminal justice, criminal investigations, accounting, business, MBA, computer information and IT science, homeland security, paralegal, medical insurance billing and coding.

Therefore it can be seen that the main areas are accounting, business, computing and criminal justice. The insurance billing and coding course is very specific (correct as at 2008).

There are many avenues for financial aid available. All the following materials are from the Everest University website and financial aid section:

Financial Aid has actually 3 Simple Steps (all according to their website)
1. Speak with a Student Finance Officer
2. Complete some financial aid questionnaire
3. Complete the FAFSA

What is it? The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is a single application that allows you to apply for a variety of government grants and loans. As part of this process, you'll apply for a PIN (Personal Identification Number) and electronic signature.

There are many federal financial aid programs available to those who qualify.
For instance, Federal Subsidized Stafford Loans. Federal Subsidized Stafford Loans are awarded on the basis of financial need. A student will not be charged any interest before beginning repayment or during an authorized postponement. The federal government subsidizes the interest during this period. This is a low-interest loan that is granted to the student by a lender such as a bank, credit union, or savings/ loan association.

Sallie Mae Alternative Loan Program. The Sallie Mae Alternative Loan program is a low-cost, private loan alternative available to students who need funding beyond the limits of the federal loan program. It allows you to borrow all the money you need after you have reached your annual Federal Stafford Loan limit.

Student Tuition Assistance Resource Loan (STAR Loan). Students who do not qualify for the Sallie Mae Alternative Loan Program may be eligible to borrow up to fifty percent of their tuition costs through the STAR Loan program. It is not available for financing the full cost of tuition. Students must have a primary source of tuition funding to be eligible for this plan.

Why you should study there and my personal recommendations

I will withhold judgement on Everest University and I think that more research is needed. Nonetheless Everest University might be good for business, criminal studies and other very specific courses and online degrees that you could be looking for, and I still reiterate that more research needs to be done.

What does the online university itself say? Everest University says that there is hands on training, small teams, flexible timings for classes, experiences pro teachers, financial planning is available, modern equipment is present, there are good career services available, there are lots of programme offerings, there are many other good reasons why you should study at Everest University. You may wish to consider their opinion in this case and not mine, since I am withholding my personal recommendation for this one. The controversies surrounding the university may have an impact and I personally would not want to give any opinion other than that you may wish to have a look around my site and see if there are other institutions that offer the online degree (at the level, type of degree, and cost) that you might be looking for.
