A Brief Look at the University - Oxford University
My website is primarily about online degrees, and reviews of online degree universities offering the usual lineup of associate, diploma, bachelors, masters or phD degrees. However, recently I have been doing research into universities for masters programmes, because I feel that I may want to personally get a masters sometime in the future. And so, it came to pass that I looked at Oxford University, among many other famous, established universities, and decided that since I evaluated it for myself, I should also share it and evaluate it for my readers or for those who may be interested in studying in England at Oxford University. First up - Oxford University is not a single place; it is collegiate university system meaning that there are many colleges here at Oxford University.
Well, it would be simply easy to say the obvious about Oxford University - this is one of the oldest, most established universities in the world, boasting an incredible reputation for academics, with very famous buildings and very famous people having visited and studied there as well. Oxford University is based in the UK in England, and has many colleges - as I said, it's a collegiate system where the university is made up of many colleges rather than a single university.

I was looking to study there full time, but since this is an online degrees blog, the question is - does Oxford University have online degrees or distance learning programmes? It certainly does offer physical campus degrees and normal degrees as most universities do.
And the answer is yes - Oxford University offers short online courses, longer online courses, and professional online courses. It also offers distance learning programmes. However, more information is only available on the Oxford University website and usually by request or by contacting the Oxford University people.
Which courses are offered at Oxford University
For short, long online courses and professional online courses, there is little information freely available, so do contact Oxford University personnel if you are interested in studying for a certificate programme there, via distance or online learning.
Apart from that hitch, Oxford University offers one of the best and biggest subject combinations in the world.
Humanities, Mathematics, Life and Physical Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences:
There are too many courses to be listed here, but the range is basically - incredible, extensive and very wide ranging from Accelerator Science to Astrophysics.
I had wanted to do either PPE (Politics, Philosophy, Economics) or Economics at Oxford University, and now I have considered applying for a masters programmes (MPhil) for Oxford University economics programme. Oxford University's reputation for research and education is quite legendary, although do be warned that many other universities with smaller reputations may be as soon or even better, just that the reputation is not there.
Finance and other important matters here at Oxford University
Scholarships, loans and aid are available, but this is unlike the USA, and hence there are no US government assistance programmes available, and certainly no US veterans or US soldiers, army personnel, etc aid available for US military personnel. In addition, Oxford University probably takes care of British citizens in terms of finance more than it does Americans or international students.
Nonetheless, scholarships, loans and aid are available for outstanding international students of all countries and nationalities.
Why you should study at Oxford University and my own personal recommendations
I think this question of mine - a very standard question - can be waived for Oxford University. Its reputation and fame are enough. I would say that more research is needed in terms of online degrees and online programmes here at Oxford University, but if you wish to study at any of the physical colleges there at Oxford University, right at the heart of England in a physical campus, that would be an excellent investment.

It is based in Virginia, USA, and has also many other physical campuses located in North Carolina and South Carolina. ECPI College of Technology has an online campus offering online education and online degrees in addition to her many physical campuses in the USA. Some of her campuses cater specifically to the US army and navy so as to provide continuing education and online degrees for many people.
ECPI College of Technology is primarily a training school for technical subjects, and has won the Best Technical Training School prize in 2007, according to Wikipedia. The main focus of ECPI College of Technology is of course on IT and technology, as the name of the college suggests, and its expert areas in fields of study are: Network Security, Electronics Engineering, Medical Technology in various fields, Business Technology and IT. These are offered variously as degrees from the campuses and also online degrees.
There are no known controversies surrounding ECPI College of Technology and its online degrees are very reputable. This is an important fact because several online universities have been known to cheat and cut corners, and have even gotten into trouble with the law. Online degrees from ECPI are trustworthy, accredited and worthy of a really good education.
Which courses are offered at ECPI College of Technology
As mentioned earlier, the main focus of ECPI College of Technology is technology and IT, and the main subjects at this college that are their main offerings and mainstay are: Network Security, Electronics Engineering, Medical Technology in various fields, Business Technology and IT. However, those are not the only online degrees or physical campus degrees offered by ECPI College of Technology.
There are also courses and fields of study in :
web development, game development, database programming, criminal justice, wireless systems, business administration, and nursing, and other medical subjects.
Associate and bachelors degrees are offered here at ECPI College of Technology. There are also diploma programmes, which are similar or related to associate degrees. Nonetheless, more research should be done and one should look around as the courses are not always offered, for instance, web development may only be for physical campuses and not for online degrees, and so on. Clearly, for masters or PhDs this would not be a university to consider, as ECPI College of Technology only offers bachelors, associate, and diploma certification. Certification and professional diplomas might be of use for continuing education, so that might be a good thing to consider.
Finance and other important matters at ECPI College of Technology
Interestingly enough, ECPI College of Technology does not have a comprehensive scope of loans and scholarships that other universities claim to offer. There is nothing on their online website about the various financial aid programmes or additional scholarship funding that are required, and so on.
However, there are financial aid and financial programmes for members of the US military. The focus of the financial aid for ECPI College of Technology is not on ordinary members or ordinary students for distance learning, but for members of the US military. There are GI Bill, TA, and ECPI Military Scholarships as well as military service specific educational programmes, such as AU-ABC programme, servicemembers opportunity colleges and so on. There are also online classes and physical on the ground campuses that cater directly to the military for education, distance learning, and online degrees. Clearly, there is financial aid for US armed forces personnel. However, even if there are other programmes and financial aid sources for civilians, there is no way of telling because these loans, study aids and other programmes to subsidise costs are not reflected in the website.
In addition, ECPI College of Technology is a private and for profit university, and so we can expect the online degrees to cost quite a lot of money. Nonetheless, the degrees are probably worth the costs because of their usefulness and specificity.
Why you should study there and my personal recommendations
ECPI College of Technology is great with technology, offers superb career services care for both online education and physical campus education, has lots of good programmes and financial aid for military personnel, and therefore is a rather good university that I would recommend. However, for those not considering online degrees and bachelors, associate and diploma certification, then ECPI College of Technology is not the place you would want to be.
All in all, ECPI College of Technology is a very good university for IT, computer and software development, and also for continuing education in the technology sector. I would recommend ECPI College of Technology for its online degrees if you want or need an IT degree from a reputed and good college.

A Brief Look at the University - Champlain College Online
Champlain College is a very interesting and global college. Initially I had thought that it was Champlain University and was going to research on that, but could not find any websites on that, and instead found Champlain College on the Internet instead. Champlain College is mainly a physical campus college, but it does of course offer online degree programmes, which is what I will be looking into. First, however, here comes the review of the university itself and what you can expect from Champlain College.
Champlain College was established in 1878 and is a private, coeductional college located in Vermont in the USA. That is not the only physical campus for this college, as there are also satellite campuses around the world - in Mumbai, Montreal and Dublin, as well as of course the Champlain College Online website where they offer online degrees and distance education.
The college offers a variety of programmes online, and these will be looked at in the course of my review. There are no known controversies surrounding Champlain College and it is considered a global campus and with a very global outlook in terms of education and physical reach of physical campuses.
( A small disclaimer and notice: In addition, there is a Champlain Regional College, which is an unrelated but similarly named institution in Canada. In the course of this article and detailed review, Champlain College is under scrutiny and not the Canadian Champlain Regional College, even though the names are similar and one might easily mistake them. )
Which courses are offered at Champlain College Online
Champlain College Online offers a lot of online courses, but of course not as many and at differing levels as dedicated online universities, as it is not an online university, but rather it is a college that has an online department in addition to its many physical campuses worldwide. Certificates, associate degrees and bachelors degrees are offered at Champlain College Online, and also, it is very important to know that Business Administration MBA, and Managing Innovation and Information Technology masters are only available online. No PhD degrees are offered online, as of 2008.
The undergraduate degree subjects offered are as follows, from the Champlain College website:
Accounting, advertising and marketing, psychology, criminal justice administration, social work and human services, internet business and global business, software development, IT, and several other fields, like forensics.
There is no mention of the level of the degrees, and more information should be requested from Champlain College directly. The main idea probably is that Champlain College is not key for online studies, but key for distance learning in different countries, where people go to the centre or the campus to learn subjects from Champlain College. That would explain the huge facilities and the various worldwide campuses, and the small Champlain College website with little information on it, compared to say, Kaplan or Phoenix, which are dedicated here to online education, and with a lot of information and resources that you may wish to explore.

I will sit on the fence with Champlain College. I know, I know, I should take a stand and often I do recommend colleges for various reasons here and there. However, this one is hard to decide. It seems to me that if you are interested in studying in the physical campuses around the world, or if you are from Mumbai, Canada or Ireland, then this may be of interest to you and you may strongly want to study at Champlain College. You would be interested in Champlain College if you are an international student because that is Champlain College's main clientele. For US citizens, this college may not be of that much use. Champlain College seems to be rather good overall and may not be of the best quality, but the education that it gives should serve you quite well. Overall, I am sitting on the fence for this one, and perhaps you might want to look deeper and look around Champlain College before making up your mind. Established in 2000, Canadian Virtual University's mission is to promote online education that is accredited and proper from Canadian universities, and hence can be seen as something as a liaison body. Participating universities offer collectively 2500 degrees and more and one quarter of the Canadian Virtual University's degrees are in French, as after all this is a Canadian partnership and a Canadian universities commission.
The partners of the Canadian Virtual University are, according to Wikipedia and also correct as at 2008,
Acadia University, Athabasca University, Cape Breton, Laurentian, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Nipissing, Royal Military College of Canada, Tele - universite, Thompson Rivers, University of Manitoba, and University of New Brunswick.
Collectively they form the Canadian Virtual University, which can be thought of as an online portal for online education that these universities offer. I would say that even if the universities within this consortium or union change, there should be no problem because of the economies of scale associated with the Canadian Virtual University. There are many universities combining their efforts and their collaborative efforts have resulted in many degrees and programmes being offered collectively that each university would have been hard pressed to provide entirely. That is to say, there is real economies of scale here and Canadian Virtual University is a very viable choice in terms of range and scale of degrees offered by the member universities and Canadian Virtual University as a whole.
There are no known controversies because Canadian Virtual University is new and also because it is not a university strictly speaking by itself. There are also no known controversies surrounding the member universities that make up Canadian Virtual University. There are both French and English courses at the Canadian Virtual University, so for non-English speakers this might be a useful choice for a university.

To put it succinctly, the Canadian Virtual University offers the whole gamut of services, degrees, programmes and subjects in both French and English, and hence there should be no problem finding both the level of the course and the subject programme of your choice here at the Canadian Virtual University because of the scope and range. Simply - the range is good and there are many subjects at various levels to choose from.
Finance and other matters at Canadian Virtual University
Unlike US universities and education in the UK and the USA, there seems to be no established loans and scholarship programme for Canadian Virtual University as at 2008. That is not to say that funding is not available, but it is probably available only via the individual universities themselves. I would hazard a guess and say that the usual loans, grants and working aid should be available in addition to scholarships, but there is no mention of any such aid, loans and scholarships on the Canadian Virtual University website as at 2008.
I would say that perhaps you need to find out the grants and aid system available in Canada and for international students studying for a Canadian degree. Data is scarce for this topic, though, so be warned! In summary, while data is hard to find, financial aid should be available for Canadian Virtual University just as US loans and aid are available for students reading an American degree online.
Why you should study there and my personal recommendations
Canadian Virtual University has a few things going for it: there are many participating universities so there is reputation, accreditation, and a range of degrees at all levels. Some universities here on my site have only one or two offerings but this Canadian Virtual University has all the degrees and has many subjects to offer. There is probably everything that you ever wanted to study and at various prices and various costs, and various levels, so there should be no problem at all. There are no known controversies and the website is user friendly and really promotes good online education, distance learning and IT knowledge as well. There are both French and English courses at the Canadian Virtual University, so for non-English speakers this might be a useful choice for a university. There are many good reasons for recommending this university for online education and distance learning!
I would recommend this university because of its range of choices and not because of its particular subjects. So do make your choice and have a good look at the many courses before making your decision! Canadian Virtual University offers many choices and many opportunities in varied fields. Canadian Virtual University has a few things going for it: there are many participating universities so there is reputation, accreditation, and a range of degrees at all levels. Some universities here on my site have only one or two offerings but this Canadian Virtual University has all the degrees and has many subjects to offer. There is probably everything that you ever wanted to study and at various prices and various costs, and various levels, so there should be no problem at all. There are no known controversies and the website is user friendly and really promotes good online education, distance learning and IT knowledge as well. There are both French and English courses at the Canadian Virtual University, so for non-English speakers this might be a useful choice for a university. There are many good reasons for recommending this university for online education and distance learning!
I would recommend this university because of its range of choices and not because of its particular subjects.
